The Buganda Kingdom has commended the outstanding service and leadership demonstrated by former Busujju Ssaza Chief Mark Jingo Byekwaso Keberenge II, describing his contribution as exemplary and a lasting benchmark within the Kingdom.
The praise was conveyed in a message from the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, delivered by the Kingdom’s Attorney General, Christopher Bwanika, during a special celebration held at Keberenge’s home in Kabalungi village, Zigoti Town Council in Mityana District.
The event marked 29 years of service to the Kabaka, 12 years in church leadership, and 40 years of marriage.
In the message, Mayiga noted that Keberenge’s rise from a junior official to a respected Ssaza Chief reflected commitment, discipline, and loyalty to the Kingdom.
“His service has been consistent and impactful, and even in retirement, he remains a role model for many,” the message read.
Speaking on behalf of the Kingdom, Bwanika emphasized the importance of strong family values in building a stable society.
“We must continue to strengthen the institution of marriage because strong families are the foundation upon which Buganda can regain its glory,” he said.
The celebrations began with a thanksgiving Mass led by Joseph Anthony Zziwa, who encouraged couples to live exemplary lives that inspire younger generations.
“Marriage is a lifelong commitment that requires patience, love, and faith. We thank God for the 40 years of unity demonstrated by Owek. Keberenge and his spouse,” he said.
In his remarks, Keberenge expressed gratitude to God for enabling him to serve both the Kingdom and the church over the years. He also raised concern about declining standards among some leaders.
“It is unfortunate that the level of commitment among some leaders today has gone down, with many no longer actively engaging in community responsibilities,” he noted.
The function attracted a wide range of dignitaries, including current and former county chiefs led by Busujju Ssaza Chief Israel Maaso Lubega, as well as political leaders and aspiring candidates.
Among those present were Busujju Member of Parliament David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga, Minister of Lands Judith Nabakooba, and Kassanda Woman MP Flavia Kalule Nabagabe.
The event not only celebrated a legacy of service but also reinforced the values of dedication, integrity, and unity that continue to shape leadership within the Buganda Kingdom.
